Recently, the topic of clean beauty has become increasingly popular. The idea behind it is to use beauty products that are free of harmful ingredients. But what exactly does clean beauty mean and which products are included?
What does Clean Beauty mean?
Clean Beauty refers to cosmetic products that are free of harmful or controversial ingredients. Harmful ingredients include parabens, silicones, sulfates and synthetic fragrances. Some of these ingredients can trigger allergic reactions, irritate the skin or even cause hormonal disorders.
But it's not just about what ends up on your skin, but also about the impact on the environment. Many conventional cosmetic products contain microplastics and other harmful substances that enter our waterways through the groundwater and can cause permanent damage to the environment and our organism. It is therefore particularly important to choose products that are good for our skin and also for the environment.
Clean Beauty is not the same as Clean Beauty
But caution is advised here, because the "Clean Beauty" label is not protected and can therefore be used by anyone. This means that not all Clean Beauty products are actually "clean". It is important to look closely and inform yourself. Some companies claim that a product is clean as long as it does not contain microplastics, others if no mineral oil is used. It quickly becomes apparent how differently "Clean Beauty" is defined. Platforms such as Code-Check and Hautengel can help you. There are often official seals on the products that give you security.
Natural cosmetics go one step further
If it is important to you that the cultivation of raw materials, the manufacturing process and the packaging are sustainable, then natural cosmetics are the right choice. The EU guidelines and in particular the most important certification bodies for natural cosmetics ensure that sustainably grown raw materials and only ingredients of natural origin are used and that the product contains sufficient amounts of the substances mentioned above.
Certifications and seals are independent organizations that monitor and confirm compliance with certain standards. They check the products and ensure that, for example, products are actually free of harmful ingredients and that they meet certain ethical and environmentally friendly standards. For example, there are certifications that ensure that the products have not been tested on animals, that they contain natural ingredients and that they are packaged in an environmentally friendly way. These seals and certifications give you the guarantee that a product is actually what it claims to be. This way you can compare different products and choose the one that meets your requirements.
Our seals and certifications
Because we know how important these seals are, we have had our products certified by various organizations, giving you the assurance that they actually meet the requirements of Clean Beauty. You can find these certifications on our products, for example:
- Natrue , a European organization, is dedicated to the topic of natural cosmetics and ensures that the ingredients used are natural and sustainable. Products with the Natrue seal must meet certain criteria to receive this seal. These include, for example, the use of natural ingredients, the avoidance of harmful chemicals and a sustainable manufacturing process. The Natrue seal gives you the assurance that the care product consists of natural and sustainable ingredients.
- The Vegan Society is a British organisation that campaigns for animal rights and monitors that no animal ingredients are used. The Vegan Society seal assures you that you are using an animal-friendly and vegan product.
- Climate Partner is a German company that focuses on climate protection, particularly the CO2 footprint of manufacturing, and ensures sustainable production. This includes, for example, avoiding waste and efficient energy use. With the Climate Partner seal, you can be sure that you are using a sustainable care product whose production is environmentally friendly.
- Dermatest is also a German company and checks the skin compatibility of a product. Products with the Dermatest seal must have a high level of skin compatibility and have been tested by independent dermatologists. The Dermatest seal gives you the assurance that you are using a product that is also suitable for sensitive skin.
- PETA approved is a seal from the animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Animal testing is generally prohibited in the EU. With the PETA Approved seal, we show that our standards go beyond this and that we neither carry out nor commission or accept animal testing, even across international borders.
Clean beauty is an important trend that encourages us to take a closer look at the ingredients and production of our beauty and care products. But only through certifications and seals can we ensure that we are really using clean beauty products that are good for us and the environment and not ones that just pretend to be clean beauty.
