Interview with the founder of treu
For this article, we asked Katrin, the founder of treu TEXTILE, a few questions about the brand, the product and our collaboration:
How did you come up with the idea of producing washable and durable textiles for the kitchen and bathroom?
That’s a good question, because treu was originally founded as an eco fashion label.
In 2018, after producing the fall/winter collection, we had fluffy sweat fabrics left over - we wanted to create something useful and wonderful out of them. At that time, we knew about washable makeup removal pads from the DIY sector - we quickly agreed that the soft organic cotton sweat would be perfect for this. This is how the first treu makeup removal pads were created and with them a rethink.
treu FASHION became treu TEXTILE and from then on we developed washable, durable and beautiful alternatives to disposable products in the kitchen, bathroom, etc.
What products do you all offer?
- washable make-up removal pads in different versions, shapes & colors
- makeup remover/washing gloves
- dishcloths and dish pads
- cloth handkerchiefs
What is your secret for clear and radiant skin?
First of all, general information about skin care:
Everything that is applied externally also penetrates internally and should therefore be as natural as possible. It is best to use only natural cosmetic products and textiles made from organic cotton (makeup removal pads, towels, etc.) to clean and care for the skin. This prevents harmful substances from penetrating and potentially irritating the skin.
Clear skin:
I am not an expert, but impurities are usually the result of one or more
Causes (e.g. diet/intolerances, hormones, incorrect care products, stress, environment, etc.). This cause(s) must be found out individually. This is usually a long and difficult path, but it is worth it!
MY cause, for example, was in the area of diet/intolerances. I am 39 years old and until six months ago I thought that I was just one of those people who had problems with their skin. When I changed my diet (for other reasons) the blemishes suddenly disappeared - I hadn't expected that. Our body tells us a lot - we have to learn to listen to it - because that is the only way we can understand it.
Radiant skin:
In my opinion, radiant skin is closely linked to a healthy lifestyle, a positive attitude towards life and constant curiosity and enthusiasm - because then you shine from the inside out and so does your skin 🤍.
What is your understanding of sustainability?
In relation to a finished textile product, sustainability takes place on two sides:
- On the product page:
Here, sustainability is created through longevity . This means that the textile product should have a long service life and therefore be reusable due to high-quality organic materials and very good processing. - On the human side:
Sustainability is created here through careful and long-term use of the product. Because whether a product ends up in the trash quickly or is used for as long as possible is sometimes up to us, the end consumer. A newfound appreciation and careful and cautious handling of the product are essential here.
Why did you decide to collaborate with HEJ ORGANIC?
It's just nice to work with a company that represents the same values. In addition, it is particularly important to us in a cooperation that our product is actually used and utilized by the end customer - this is definitely guaranteed with HEJ ORGANIC X treu.
Our makeup removal pads are a wonderful and useful addition to the new HEJ ORGANIC product - that's why they are available together in the limited launch box 🤍.
This makes the make-up removal pads special
The make-up removal pads from treu TEXTILE are made from 100% organic cotton. As washable and reusable pads for cleansing the face and removing eye make-up, they are particularly sustainable. The pads are available in different versions. In the Get Naked Kit you will find the single-layer SINGLES made from soft organic fleece. The special thing about them: single-layer pads are thinner than two-layer ones and therefore require less of our micellar water when cleaning.
How should the pads be used? Can you do something wrong? How often do they need to be washed, etc.?
The make-up removal pads can be used just like conventional cotton pads. Dry or wet - as recommended by the manufacturer of the facial cleansing/care product. There is no way to go wrong. The pads should be washed after 1 - 2 uses. With natural eye make-up, for example, one side of the pad is often enough for cleaning, so the unused side can be used the next evening.
What do you do after using the pad? Wash it with warm water or soap?
After use, you should rinse the pad with warm water and allow it to air dry completely. I always place the pad on a small loofah sponge. Due to its fibrous structure, it is extremely permeable to air - this allows the pad to dry more evenly and quickly on both sides.
How often can you use them before you put them in the washing machine and at what temperature should you wash them?
After 1 - 2 uses, the make-up removal pads should be washed at 60 °C - this ensures that all bacteria are killed and that there are no make-up residues.
How long can you generally use a pad and how are they best stored after use?
The pads can be used for years. Since they should be washed in a laundry net (otherwise they may end up in the rubber door seal of the washing machine), we recommend simply collecting the used and dried pads in a laundry net until the next washing machine.
